These are all defects discovered during normal home inspections of typical looking
homes...

This is a picture of
the top of a chimney where the Terra-cotta flues are missing the rain caps / spark arresters.
Without a rain cap, water can run down the inside of the chimney deteriorating the mortar
between bricks weakening the chimney from the inside out and without a spark arrester (mesh
screen) birds and squirrels can freely nest in the flue and cause blockage. We advised our
client to add these devices.
